Machine Sewing 101: Make a Tote Bag // Saturday February 7th 1-3:30pm

February 7th, 1-3:30pm @ Friends Forever Studio (285 Rantoul St, Beverly, Pond St entrance) with Sarah from Forager Fabrics!

Learn the basics of machine sewing and make your own tote bag! In this class, you will learn how to: wind a bobbin, thread your machine, adjust your stitch length, width and tension, read a pattern, sew a simple, lined tote bag

Who this class is for: This class is for complete beginners or anyone who needs a refresher on using a sewing machine. If you’re interested in garment sewing, this is a great place to start! 

ATTENDEES MUST BRING:  Attendees will need to bring their own sewing machines. Each machine will need to have a fresh needle in it (with a few extras to spare), and a bobbin that fits the machine (if you are unsure what type of bobbin you need, this can be found in your machine's manual). 

WHEN BUYING THE TICKET: Please list your sewing machine make and model in the order notes OR email it to us at bebright@soymuchbrighter.com. This will help to ensure Sarah is prepared to help with each machine.

About the Instructor: 

Sarah Bushway is a lifelong crafter and sewist who began making her own clothes as a personal protest against the fast fashion industry—and never looked back! She loves showing people how empowering it can be to sew clothes that truly fit their bodies and personal style. Sarah is also the owner of Forager Fabrics, specializing in sustainable fibers and secondhand sewing supplies.

Frequently asked questions

In the event of a workshop cancellation by the instructor or Friends Forever, all attendees will be notified and receive a full refund and notified of a rain date if any.

There is a 5-day cancellation window for attendees. You can cancel your reservation within 5 days before the class date to receive a refund. Cancellations after the 5-day window will not be refunded.

In the event of a rescheduled class, patrons with already purchased tickets will be notified and get first priority for seats for the new date. New and remaining seats -- if any -- will then be opened up to the public for purchase.

Please send all inquiries for private events to bebright@soymuchbrighter.com with the date and time you are looking to book the space for. We are open to hosting fundraisers, birthday parties, bachelorette parties, or other events for ages 18 and up. Please also include in your email if you'd like the studio to also host a workshop for your event - ex: block printing, painting, spell jar making, etc

Photographs may be taken at any of the FFS workshops and may be used in future marketing of the studio and it's events

Unfortunately no, we are an adults-only studio space. All our classes are 18+ unless otherwise stated.
